SUNY Stonybrook Heart Center

Architect: Kaplan McLaughlin Diaz

SUNY Stonybrook Heart Center Details

Stony Brook University Hospital Heart Center integrates the cutting-edge research resources of the university and its Health Sciences Center with advanced clinical care provided by Suffolk County's tertiary hospital. This 60,000 square foot renovation included the Heart Center, Orthopedics Unit, M/S Inpatient Unit and the construction of a new mechanical penthouse. To allow the center to remain operational during construction the project was scheduled in two phases.

The Heart Center, including the Blood Bank, remained operational during construction. Extensive coordination with the hospital was critical, as portions of the space were operational while other areas were under construction. To maximize the comfort and safety of patients and staff, ACC used extensive filtration units, partitions and special protection to keep any dust out of the vents and occupied spaces.
